"The picture above was shot at the FIRST Midlands Regatta in 1958.
The first two Midlands Regattas were sailed from the borrowed property
of Mr. Alex Crosswell, who had one small but serviceable ramp and no
dock. A borrowed pontoon boat worked great for the race committee, which
is the reason we later blew $400.00 on a used pontoon boat for the RC in
1960. We flag officers got into hot water for spending so much money
without a full board discussion about it, but the opportunity presented

Columbia Sailing Club invites
you to our 52nd Annual Midlands Regatta and Oyster Roast -- famous
throughout the Southeast as a weekend of fun on and off the water. From
the race course to our new club house, and the Oyster Roast, we're set
for a weekend you won't want to miss. Two great days of racing are
planned, with courses for all ages and all sailboats. Some of the
